Happy New Year 2020

New Year is a time of miracles and wish fulfillment. It’s a greatest celebration which marks the beginning of a new year calendar.

In the Georgian calendar New Year’s Eve, the last day of the year, which is greatly celebrated on 31 December in Russia. We really enjoy this party! We begin to prepare for this holiday a few weeks in advance.

This is story about how we prepared for this magical time.

Kids write letters to Ded Moroz (Grand Father Frost) in about a month with the hope of receiving desired gifts. People spend a lot of time in stores looking for gifts for their family and friends. We like to spend free time in the stores just admiring the Christmas decorations and elegant Christmas trees. 

This year Egor decided to decorate our Christmas tree a month before the New Year. Since the letter was already taken away by Ded Moroz (usually Egor keeps the letter under his pillow), it was necessary to decorate a Christmas tree. On the New Year’s Eve Ded Moroz usually puts gifts under it.

Since we moved to Sochi in February 2019, this time we had to spend a lot of time buying an artificial Christmas tree and all decorations. Egor choosed all decorations and decided how to decorate our house himself. He really enjoed to do this, so we gave him complete freedom in this activity.

This year our son asked Ded Moroz to send to his beloved plush friends (Basik and Molodoy) New Year’s costumes in addition to his present. Ded Moroz of course fulfilled his wish. And we were asked to buy him a Darth Vader costume from Star Wars films.

School holidays were announced from December 27 to January 9. But the week before holidays was very busy. We decided to make a winter bouquet for Egor’s teacher. It’s a composition of cones, tangerines and fir branches. It was really difficult to find fir branches in Sochi.

Before the New Year they were sold in the markets, but we found out about it later.

As a result, Egor and I made such a bouquet for his teacher.  This is not difficult. Yoy only need to prepare necessary components. There are a lot of videos on YouTube how to create any variant of such bouquet.

In addition, pupils at school was given a task to create a New Year newspaper. Egor agreed to do it together with his desk mate. Her name is Tiffany, she is from India.

Any newspaper could be invented with text congratulations and any possible decorations. Any idea was welcome. Egor and Tiffany spent half a day have been doing this task with great pleasure. Eventually they came up with a Christmas tree of colored paper in the center. They decorated the newspaper with handmade snowflakes on the both sides and wrote congratulations. It was a great work for both to write the text, because they have been taught to write cursive not long ago.

Finally this wonderful time came. There was a wonderful school party with congradulations, songs, dancing and presents.

My spouse and I were so pleased to know that the school’s decided to put dried fruit and other healthy sweets in Egor’s present instead of traditional sweets.

And of course Egor found under the Christmas tree his presents from Ded Moroz and his beloved plush friends in their new costumes.
