Daily list of healthy foods

The aim of a plant-based diet is not just to help to prevent the disease, but arrest and even reverse it. The simple truth is that most doctors are good at treating illnesses but bad at preventing chronic disease.

In a book "How not to die", a New York Times Best Seller, Dr. Michael Greger, M.D., the internationally-recognized lecturer and physician offers to give preference to whole plant foods.

By following Dr. Greger’s advice you will learn which foods to eat and which lifestyle changes to make to live longer.

For example, you can live long enough by eating only potato. That would be a plant diet, but not healthy. We cannot consider that all plant foods are equally healthy.

According to the studies of the famous doctor, healthy products are not interchangeable. Some foods have special nutrients which cannot be found in others.

For example, flaxseeds contain 100 times more anticancer lignans than other food. Another example is mushrooms. They are not plants. But they contain nutrient ergothioneine that cannot be found in plants.

Learn a checklist of the foods we should try to consume every day:

  • beans (black beans, butter beans, black-eyed peas, chickpeas, kidney beans, pinto beans, lentils, etc.)
  • berries (acai berries, barberries, blackberries, blueberries, cherries, concord grapes, cranberries, goji berries, kumquats, mulberries, raspberries, strawberries)
  • cruciferous vegetables (arugula, beet greens, collard greens, kale, mesclun mix, mustard greens, sorrel, spinach, swiss chard, tupnip greens)
  • other vegetables (artichokes, asparagus, beets, bell peppers, carrots, corn, garlic, mushrooms, okra, onions, purple potatoes, pumpkin, sea vegetables, snap peas, squash, sweet potatoes/yams, tomatoes and zucchini)
  • whole grains (barley, buckwheat, millet, oats, popcorn, quinoa, rye, whole-wheat pasta)
  • other fruit
  • greens
  • flaxseeds
  • nuts and seeds
  • herbs and spices
  • beverages

You should consume more products from these categories than others. Drink enough clean water daily.

Of course, don’t forget about moderate-intensity activities regularly such as: bicycling, dancing, jumping on a trampoline, roller-skating, skateboarding, walking, yoga and so on.

As for our experience, we try to follow this list of products everyday. For example, we used to eat only fresh berries in summer, but now we eat frozen winter. We ate few cruciferous before and didn’t eat beans practically. But we were able to change our diet and we really like these foods!
