About our life in Cyprus - Part 3

The car and local friends gave us a great opportunity to see places which are unaccessible to ordinary tourists.

One day we visited a beautiful place in the Troodos mountains. It’s the largest mountain range in the island. The road to the mountains took about an hour.

There was a recreation area in the fresh air among trees and greenery. Air was so clean that it was breathed in an unusual way. There were practically no people because it was a working day.

On the big area surrounded by fine forest there were wooden tables and benches. Everything was arranged for a picnic: there were sinks around edges, hollows in the stone slabs for fire, toilets, even playground for children.

At that time we were on a traditional diet. If we visited this place again, we would cook barbecue vegetables.

If to speak about local vegan/vegetarian or a raw restaurants and cafes, I can’t give you any advice, because at that time we ate a lot of meat and other traditional food. We ate fast food not often, but never thought about its harm. It’s not surprising, that changing the diet I lost 6 and my spouse 16 pounds and we feel ourselves much better and more energetic. We couldn’t live a day in Cyprus without a nap. We were sure it was because of the climate. Now I’m sure it’s because of the food. A lot of energy was spent on digestion.

As for fruit and vegetables, there are a large selection of them in stores. A lot of imported fruit and vegetables from Greece and Germany. In a season we bought local strawberries and bananas, oranges, mandarins. Prices for some imported fruit were expensive.

Most of all we liked to buy fruit, vegetables and other food in Carrefour. It was the world’s largest chain of stores after Walmart. As far as I’m concerned, now there is another supermarket called Sklavenitis instead of Carrefour.

An interesting moment about live in Cyprus. One day we received a package from China. At the post office my spouse was asked to open the package and show the package contents to the mail officer.

I should say, beaches in Limassol are with dark volcanic sand. If you want to enjoy the beaches with white sand, they are located in Ayia Napa.
